Ramsagar Dinajpur
Even though the name is Ramsagor but it is not a sagor (Sea) but the biggest pond of Bangladesh. During 1750 AD – 1755 AD. There was prolonged drought. King Ramnath excavated this pond to remove the scarcity of water of the local inhabitants. King Ramnath excavated this during the reign of Nawab Alivardi Khan. As the history says, pond was excavated but there was no water in it. And at that moment the son of king Ramnath went down to the pond and water sprang up but king’s son was sacrificed for the water. About 10, 50,000 workers were engaged in this digging and about 30,000 taka was spent in this purpose.
The pond is 1,079 m long (north south), 192.6 m wide (east- west) and 905 m deep. The banks of the pond are high and are beutified with trees and flowers trees. Ramsagor is situated at the village Tajpur, 8 km south of Dinajpur district town. There are rest house, spots and relics of an ancient building called ‘Hazarduri’ it is built by king Ramnath.
